Anniversary Towers has really become a center of attraction of over the last few days. Not
because it is being pelted by rioting University of Nairobi students demanding
the disbursement of HELB loans, not because it the set venue for Rick Ross’
mega concert; but because it is housing the IEBC headquarters, where all sorts of drama has been
emanating.
The drama surrounding the resignation of the vice chairperson Ms. Consolata Maina, Margret Mwachaya and Dr. Paul Kurgat should however not be of too much attention and discussion having in mind the weighty issues still at hand.
Even after the handshake, some of Kenyans are yet
to come to terms with the aftermath of the August 2017 polls. People still need
satisfactory explanations on why the presidential elections had to be nullified,
why the commission overpaid their lawyers during the hearing of the petition
and above all, Kenyans still need the truth about who killed the IEBC
ICT manager Mr. Chris Msando. Resignation of the commissioners hence becomes a non-issue
and just mere sideshows.
It is very sad and embarrassing for the
three commissioners to chastise Mr. Chebukati as unfit to hold the office, it
is totally wrong to say that they have no faith in the chairman yet they
unanimously took a swipe at Dr. Roseline Akombe for tendering her registration.
All the other commissioners and the secretariat, led by Mr. Chebukati viciously
attacked Dr. Akombe for spilling the beans about the rot in the commission;
calling her all sorts of names in an attempt to label her as a cowardly chicken.
These commissioners instead of calling for press conferences, should just come
out clean and tell the country nothing but the truth about what transpired
during and after the highly disputed elections.
As we all wait for audit report from the procurement department that led to the suspension of Mr Chiloba by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee this is the beginning of all the drama in IEBC.
I will just grab more packs of popcorn,
sit back and watch it all as it unfolds because there will never be remedies to
these hitches if we still continue doing things same way and expect different
outcomes.
